Do AI automation agency courses work?

What the courses claim
Build workflows for small businesses at $2,000 to $15,000 a project. Courses and videos on this topic usually add a monthly figure for a solo operator.
What we could check
The page that ranks for this says in plain words: "These are estimates from public rate pages, not a survey." Its figures are $3K to $15K a month for solo operators, and, citing a freelancer marketplace, $2,000 to $10,000 or more for complex multi-step workflows and $500 to $1,500 for simple ones.

What we could not check. Listed rates are prices people ask, not sales made. No count of how many agencies win work at those prices.
A seller's survey is not a record of what agencies earn
The post is by a company that sells an operating platform for voice agencies, and it says so. Its data is a survey of 47 agencies that applied to or joined that company's beta between March and May 2026, self-reported, with MRR from $2K to $28K. The sample is the vendor's own applicants. The margin figure is for the voice layer only, not the whole business. Source: dev.to: state of AI voice for agencies, July 2026.
What the freelance marketplaces show
Upwork's Q2 2026 results, as reported: revenue $191.7 million, down 1.7%; total gross services volume $966.4 million, down 3.6%; AI-related volume up more than 22% to about $330 million; AI strategy and consulting up more than 50%. Market totals say nothing about how often a new account with no reviews wins work, or at what rate. We could not check live job counts without signing in. Reported by an industry newsletter from company results, not from Upwork's own filing.
Fiverr's Q2 2026 results, as reported: revenue $97.8 million, down 10% from $108.6 million; marketplace revenue $63.1 million, down 15.5%; full-year outlook $356 million to $372 million, a decline of 14% to 17%. The company tied the fall to AI "eroding demand for the low-value, transactional gigs that once filled its listings." We read a news summary, not Fiverr's own release, and the page shows two different dates (August 4 and August 7). Nothing here says what an individual seller using AI earns.

What regulators say about business-opportunity sellers
The FTC's March 2026 settlement concerns an AI sales-agent company whose buyers were told they could license the platform and earn from it. It is a proposed order based on allegations.
Buying access to an "AI agent" platform as a business VERIFIED
What we could check. The FTC's press release dated 2026-03-24 reports a proposed settlement with one AI sales-agent company and its owners. The complaint, filed in August 2025, alleges they falsely claimed that purchasers "will or are likely to make substantial earnings" and falsely claimed a refund or buy-back guarantee. The proposed order is an $18 million judgment, largely suspended because the defendants cannot pay in full, $50,000 paid for consumer relief, and a ban on selling or marketing any business opportunity.
What we could not. Again, allegations and a proposed order, filed in a federal court. The release does not say whether the defendants admitted or denied the allegations, and does not state what consumers lost. We name no company here; the release does.
Four questions to put to any course
- How many students won a paying client, and in how many weeks?
- Is every income figure dated, and from a source other than the person selling?
- Is the refund policy in writing, and who pays it back?
- Can you see the method before you pay?

Questions
Do AI automation agency courses work?
We found no dated record of what their students earn. The prices quoted online are rates people ask, not sales made.
How much can an AI automation agency make?
Figures online range from $500 to $1,500 for a simple workflow to $2,000 to $10,000 or more for a complex one, but the page we checked says they are estimates from public rate pages, not a survey.
Is an AI automation agency a good business for a beginner?
We found no count of how many newcomers win work at the quoted prices, so we cannot rate it as a sure route. Platform data shows demand for AI work exists, but it says nothing about new accounts.
Are agency income numbers online reliable?
Check who published them. One survey we opened came from a company that sells to agencies and counted its own applicants.
