Is Remotion free for commercial use, and what can you use instead?
checked 2026-10-08 5 entries from the Tools Atlas
By Tori, last checked 2026-10-08. Each entry below was read against its own page or licence. The verdicts are written for someone who wants to use a tool in something they sell or publish; a skip is often about a licence or a heavy setup, not about quality.

HyperFrames Use it
You write the video as a web page, and it renders it to MP4 with headless Chrome and ffmpeg. It ships 20 ready-made recipes (launch video, explainer, captions, pull request to video). Apache-2.0, no per-render fee and no company-size clause. It is pre-1.0 and the Windows install is unverified, so make one test render first.
Licence. Apache-2.0. Cost. Free software. An optional paid cloud render from its maker exists; you do not need it.

ACE-Step 1.5 Use it
Makes background music on your computer, from 10 seconds to 10 minutes a track, and the fast version needs under 4 GB of graphics card memory. MIT for code and model files. The quality claim (between Suno v4.5 and v5) is the authors' own, so judge by ear.

Satori Use it
Turns a web page layout into a picture, which is how many link previews are made. MPL-2.0. Put the text in the layout, never inside an AI-made image. Takumi is a newer, richer alternative (MIT or Apache-2.0).

Which licence fits you
A solo creator or a team of up to three: Remotion's free terms cover you, so the reason to look elsewhere is the derivative rule or growing past three people.
A growing company or a product that ships to others: HyperFrames or Revideo, which have no company-size clause.
Quick demo clips of your app or site: OpenScreen, then add music from ACE-Step.
