Free tools for earning online, answered by question
16 questions 77 of 86 Atlas entries read 2026-10-08
By Tori. A verdict is written for someone who wants to use a tool in something they sell or publish. “Skip it” is often about a licence or a heavy setup, not about quality; the reason is on the page. The licence rows are what each tool's own page says. They are not legal advice, so read the licence yourself before you rely on it.
Pictures, voice and video
Which models and programs you may use in paid work, and which are only for research.
- Which free AI image and video models can you use for paid work?
Use FLUX.2 klein 4B or Z-Image-Turbo: both are Apache-2.0, which allows commercial use. - Which free text-to-speech tools can you use commercially?
Chatterbox, VoxCPM2 and kokoro-onnx are free and licensed for commercial use (MIT or Apache-2.0). - faster-whisper vs whisper.cpp vs WhisperX: which one should you use?
All three are free and allow commercial use (MIT or BSD-2-Clause). - Which free translation models can you use commercially?
NLLB-200 is licensed non-commercial (CC-BY-NC-4.0), so do not build paid work on it. - Is Remotion free for commercial use, and what can you use instead?
Remotion is free for individuals, non-profits and for-profit companies with up to three employees; larger companies need a paid licence, and copying it to sell a derivative is barred. - Which free tools turn a long video into short clips?
No ready-made clipper is a clean drop-in.
Your site and your links
Stats, link tracking, workflow tools and design libraries for a site you sell from.
- Umami vs GoatCounter: which free website stats tool should you pick?
Both are free, cookie-free stats you run yourself. - What is a free Dub alternative for tracking link clicks?
Shlink is the easier free choice: MIT licence, you run it yourself, and it counts visits per link. - Can you build a paid product on n8n or Windmill? What the licences allow
n8n lets you use it for your own internal business or for non-commercial and personal use, and share it only free and non-commercially; a paid product built on it is outside that. - Which free animation and design tools can you use on a website you sell from?
Motion, Lenis, Magic UI (all MIT), Paper Shaders (Apache-2.0) and the Fontsource fonts (SIL OFL) are free and allow commercial use.
Posting and publishing
Which platforms have an official way to post, and what their rules say.
- Postiz vs Mixpost: which free social media scheduler should you run?
Postiz (AGPL-3.0) is the one with reach: one post to 14+ networks through developer apps you register yourself, plus an API. - Which platforms let you post automatically, and what are their rules?
Bluesky and Mastodon are the easiest: free official connections, no approval step, no fee per post.
Search and AI visibility
Free ways to audit a site, read search data, check AI answers and spot demand.
- Which free tools check a website for speed, broken links and sitemap problems?
Start with PageSpeed Insights: free, official, no setup. - Which free tools help you read Google Search Console and get pages found?
Google Search Console is the only source of real search data about your own site, and it is free. - How do you check whether ChatGPT and other AI answers mention your website?
Once a week, ask 10 to 20 questions your site should answer, through an official connection to an AI service you already have a key for, and write down whether your site is named. - Is pytrends allowed, and what can you use instead to spot demand?
pytrends and trendspy read Google Trends without permission, which breaks its terms.
How these pages are made
Each tool, method or platform connection in the Tools Atlas was read against its own page, graded for how good the source is, and dated. A page is written only when it answers a question people actually ask: a licence question, a comparison, or an “alternatives” question. Tools with nothing to say on their own stay in the Atlas and get no page.
When a licence or a rule changes, the date on the entry shows how stale it is. If you spot one that is out of date, write to hello@ticassociation.com.
