Tools by question

Which platforms let you post automatically, and what are their rules?

checked 2026-10-08 10 entries from the Tools Atlas

Short answer. Bluesky and Mastodon are the easiest: free official connections, no approval step, no fee per post. dev.to, GitHub, Instagram, YouTube, eBay and beehiiv also have official routes, each with rules. Software that clicks through your signed-in browser breaks the terms of X, Reddit, Discord and Meta.

One by one

Bluesky and Mastodon publishing libraries Use it

Post, with images, to your own Bluesky or Mastodon account through free official connections. Bluesky welcomes bots that label themselves as bots and do not reply to people who did not tag them. On Mastodon, follow each server's bot rules.

Licence. MIT or Apache-2.0 (Bluesky); MIT (Mastodon). Cost. Free software.

dev.to publishing API Use it

Posts an article you approved to your dev.to account and fetches it back to confirm it is live. Set dev.to's AI-assisted option and read its guidelines first: unmarked AI posts get hidden.

Licence. not stated. Cost. Free software.

GitHub API (comments) Use it

Posts a comment you approved on an issue or pull request, under your name. Allowed; read everything before it goes out.

Licence. not stated. Cost. Free software.

Instagram publishing API Use it

Publishes images, videos and Reels to your own account. Only creator or business accounts work, up to 100 API-published posts per 24 hours, and media must be hosted at a public web address.

Licence. not stated. Cost. Free software.

YouTube upload API Use it

Uploads a video to your own channel. Uploads from API projects that have not passed Google's audit are locked to private, which suits approve-then-publish; actions like comments need your consent each time.

Licence. not stated. Cost. Free software.

eBay Inventory API Use it

Creates and updates your listings through eBay's own seller connection. Needs a seller account. Fees differ by country site, and regular reselling may make you a commercial seller under local rules.

Licence. not stated. Cost. Free software.

beehiiv create-post API Use it

Creates a newsletter post from an approved draft. Official, but only on beehiiv's Pro and Enterprise plans and the free trial.

Licence. not stated. Cost. Needs a beehiiv Pro plan, about USD 95 a month.

Hacker News API Use it

Read-only. Free Hacker News data (top, new, Ask, Show, comments) with no key and no rate limit. It does not post.

Licence. MIT. Cost. Free software.

Product Hunt API Skip it

Product Hunt's public GraphQL connection. Its documentation says it must not be used commercially without contacting Product Hunt, so ask first.

Licence. Proprietary API terms. Cost. Free software.

Posting by driving your signed-in browser Skip it

Software that clicks and types in your signed-in browser to post or reply. It breaks the terms of X, Reddit, Discord and Meta, which ban scripted logged-in sessions. Do not use it on those platforms.

Licence. not stated. Cost. Free software.

The pattern

Use the official connection, not your login. Review every post before it goes out under your name. Label AI help where the platform asks for it. Read the platform's own rule page; this list is a map, not a licence.

Is it OK to use a bot on Bluesky?
Yes if it labels itself as a bot and does not reply to people who did not tag it.

Can software post for me through my logged-in browser?
