Postiz vs Mixpost: which free social media scheduler should you run?
checked 2026-10-08 2 entries from the Tools Atlas
By Tori, last checked 2026-10-08. Each entry below was read against its own page or licence. The verdicts are written for someone who wants to use a tool in something they sell or publish; a skip is often about a licence or a heavy setup, not about quality.

One by one
Postiz Use it
A scheduler you run yourself that publishes one post to 14+ networks, with a public API, a command-line tool and an add-on for AI assistants. You register your own developer app on each network, and X charges about USD 0.01 per post. AGPL-3.0, so call it unmodified through its API and do not fork or bundle it. Do not switch on its Skool connection: that one uses a logged-in browser session, which breaks the platform's rules. It suits people who run a home server; it is heavy for a small setup. Its table of per-platform limits (length, media, TikTok inbox mode) is worth copying either way.
Licence. AGPL-3.0. Cost. Free software. You register your own developer app on each network; X charges about USD 0.01 per post.

Mixpost Skip it
A scheduler you run yourself. MIT for the Lite version only. Lite covers only Facebook Pages, X and Mastodon; the API and the AI-assistant add-on need Pro at USD 299. The Atlas skips it for that reason.
Licence. MIT (Lite only). Cost. Free Lite version. The API needs the Pro plan at USD 299.

Which to choose
Several networks and automation: Postiz, accepting the AGPL rule and the time to register a developer app per network.
Only Facebook Pages, X and Mastodon, posted by hand from a screen: Mixpost Lite works, but you cannot automate it without paying.
Only Bluesky and Mastodon: you may not need a scheduler at all, since their official connections are free (see the posting page).

Can I fork Postiz?
The Atlas advises calling it unmodified through its API and not forking or bundling it, because of the AGPL licence.
