Tools by question

Which free tools check a website for speed, broken links and sitemap problems?

checked 2026-10-08 5 entries from the Tools Atlas

Short answer. Start with PageSpeed Insights: free, official, no setup. Unlighthouse repeats Google's Lighthouse checks across every page of your site. advertools checks sitemaps and robots files from your own computer. SEOnaut finds broken links and duplicate titles but needs Docker and MySQL, which is heavy for a small site.

One by one

PageSpeed Insights Use it

Asks Google how fast and how easy to use a public page is on a phone. An official connection that works without a key for a few checks.

Licence. not stated. Cost. Free software.

Unlighthouse Use it

Runs Google's Lighthouse over every page of a site and reports speed and accessibility. MIT. Useful once the site is live; low priority before that.

Licence. MIT. Cost. Free software.

advertools Use it

A Python crawler plus readers for robots.txt and sitemap files, for checking your own site from your own computer. MIT. Needs no server. Respect robots.txt on any site that is not yours.

Licence. MIT. Cost. Free software.

SEOnaut Copy the idea, skip the tool

Crawls a site and lists problems by severity: broken links, redirects, missing or duplicate titles, heading order. MIT. It needs Docker and MySQL and has only a web screen, so copy its list of problems into a small check of your own instead.

Licence. MIT. Cost. Free software.

Six checks before you publish many pages Copy the idea, skip the tool

Six checks to pass before publishing a batch of pages: enough words that are unique to each page, no missing data, no near-duplicates, noindex pages kept out of the sitemap, one address per page, and no page that nothing links to.

Licence. MIT. Cost. Free software.

Why the six checks matter

Google's spam policy treats many pages made mainly to rank as scaled content abuse, whether a person or a machine wrote them. The six checks catch the usual causes: thin pages, copies of each other and pages nobody can reach.

The repository the checks come from has no production use, so the list is worth copying and the code is not worth depending on.
