Sell secondhand items on Vinted and eBay: is it worth it? (2026)

Worth a try checked 2026-10-08

Short answer. Worth a try. Sell secondhand items on Vinted and eBay needs about 30 minutes a day and nothing to start. If it works, a first dollar usually takes 1 to 4 weeks. Vinted says members earned EUR 10.8 billion selling on the platform in 2025, but it gives no per-seller figure, no median and no spread.

Photograph things you already own and no longer use, list them with AI-written descriptions and prices, and sell them on Vinted, eBay or local marketplaces.

What you are selling

Used clothes, books, toys, electronics and household items. The money is the sale price minus postage; Vinted and eBay (in several EU countries) charge private sellers no selling fee and charge the buyer instead.

What the evidence says about money

Vinted says members earned EUR 10.8 billion selling on the platform in 2025, but it gives no per-seller figure, no median and no spread. One UK delivery-company guide says casual UK 'microsellers' average GBP 246 a year (publisher, sample and date not stated), which is a mean for all casual sellers, not a beginner median. Expect small amounts: this is mainly a way to turn clutter into cash.

How sure are we: Backed by a secondary source such as press or a review site.

The rules where it happens

The hard part: where people quit

The moment: Listing the first item. Why: It feels small and slow, and buyers haggle. What helps: Start with five things you already own. Your AI helper writes the descriptions. Profit is real money within weeks, but small.

When to stop

If after 6 weeks and 30 listings fewer than 5 items have sold, stop listing and switch path. Never spend money on stock you could not afford to lose. If you start buying items to resell, open a Pro seller account on Vinted first (or move that activity to eBay) and check your local business-registration rules.

What can go wrong

Age, region and other limits

Minimum age 18. Vinted terms say the site is for people over 18. Vinted and eBay availability, fees and payout rules differ by country; eBay private-seller fee-free selling applies in Germany, UK (most categories), France and Italy, and requires an EEA address for France/Italy.
