AI trading bots, paid signals and 'copy my: why we say do not start
Do not start checked 2026-10-08
Promises steady profit from crypto or forex by buying an 'AI' trading bot, paid buy/sell signals, or joining a paid group that copies someone's bot or trades.
What the evidence says about money
Do not start. EU regulators found 74% to 89% of retail CFD accounts lose money (average loss EUR 1,600 to 29,000 per client, ESMA 2018). The Bank for International Settlements found a majority of retail bitcoin app users in nearly all economies made losses (2015 to 2022).
How sure are we: Backed by the platform's own pages or a regulator.
What can go wrong
- Most retail traders lose money and fees reduce results further
- Fake 'AI' bots and signal groups are a common fraud pattern, including fake demo accounts and referral bonuses
- Giving a bot withdrawal rights or API keys can lead to theft
- Running or selling such a service for others can require a licence in the EU and elsewhere
- Platforms and regulators act against paid signal and copy groups
How it hooks people
The pitch is 'AI plus passive plus almost no effort'. Regulators list influencers, referral bonuses and 'no experience required' as red flags.
Age, region and other limits
Minimum age 18. Regulated activity in the EU (MiFID II / MiCA) when it involves automatic execution or personal recommendations. Legal advice not given.
