What you are selling
A licence to use an image. Adobe pays contributors 33% of the sale for photos, vectors and illustrations. Only a few images ever sell.
What the evidence says about money
No beginner income data was found, so no monthly range is given. Adobe Stock does accept AI-generated images with strict labelling and review. In July 2026 several contributors reported download drops of about 50% and one reported only 6 sales in 30 days, while others said it was unclear why. Shutterstock stopped accepting AI-generated contributor uploads. Payout is only requested after 25 USD in royalties and a 45-day wait after the first sale.
How sure are we: Backed by a secondary source such as press or a review site.
What only you can do, once
- Create an Adobe ID, complete the contributor tax form and payout setup (PayPal, Payoneer or Skrill)
- Label every upload as generative AI and check it for errors before submitting

The rules where it happens
- Adobe Stock: You do it by hand inside the platform. Generative AI content is accepted (page updated Jun 11, 2026) if it meets quality standards, the 'created with generative AI' box is ticked, prompts do not name artists, real people, characters or places without rights, people prompts need signed model releases, and no more than three iterations of similar assets may be submitted. - Shutterstock: Do not automate this. Shutterstock 'will not allow AI-generated content to be submitted by contributors for licensing' (policy dated Jul 16, 2025). Source
The hard part: where people quit
The moment: Uploads that earn cents. Why: Royalties are 33% of a licence and the library is huge. What helps: Aim at specific commercial topics, not generic scenes.
When to stop
If 8 weeks and 60 approved images produce no sale, stop. Adobe may block accounts that submit many near-duplicates, so do not mass-upload.
What can go wrong
- Heavy competition and falling downloads reported in 2026 by contributors
- Account blocking for excessive similar submissions or for wrongly labelled content
- Without a valid tax form Adobe withholds the maximum rate, up to 30% depending on country of residence
- Tool licences may not allow stock submission; Adobe states it will not advise on third-party licences
- Rights and copyright of AI images are legally unsettled
Age, region and other limits
Minimum age 18. Adobe's payout page names PayPal as available globally and Payoneer for contributors outside the United States, with no country list on that page. Age and country eligibility pages were not found; 18 is assumed.
