Worth a try checked 2026-10-08

What you are selling
A Notion template that buyers duplicate into their own account. Money comes from the few buyers who prefer paying for a ready layout over building one, and it only works if they can find your template.
What the evidence says about money
No seller income data for Notion templates was found, so no monthly range is given. Notion's marketplace needs a waitlist and approval that 'may take a few months', and it keeps 8% plus 0.40 USD per sale (plus 1% foreign exchange for sellers outside the US). Many free Notion templates exist, so only a narrow, well-made template is likely to sell, and most will sell nothing.
How sure are we: Our own assumption, not verified.
What only you can do, once
- Create or use a Notion account and test the template yourself
- Join the Notion marketplace waitlist and complete Stripe onboarding with identity details
- Approve the template and its description before submission

| 3 | Build the template in your Notion account and use it yourself for a day | You | 40 |

| 5 | Join the Notion marketplace waitlist and start Stripe onboarding | You | 25 |
| 6 | Submit the template for review in Notion | You | 15 |
| 7 | Set a calendar reminder to check approval and note the submission date in your AI helper | You | 5 |
The rules where it happens
- Notion Marketplace: You do it by hand inside the platform. Creators must join a waitlist, be approved by Notion and onboard with Stripe to sell directly. Notion charges 8% + 0.40 USD per transaction, 1% extra foreign exchange for creators outside the US, holds funds for 14 days, pays out biweekly with a 20 USD minimum, and handles VAT. The template must be published as a Notion Site with 'Duplicate as template' on. Source
- Gumroad: You press publish yourself. 10% + 0.50 USD per direct sale; resale of PLR and copyrighted content is banned. Source
The hard part: where people quit
The moment: Waiting for marketplace approval. Why: Notion's marketplace has a waitlist and approval step. What helps: Sell through a storefront meanwhile.
When to stop
If the template has been live 10 weeks (or Notion approval is still pending after 12 weeks) with no sale, stop or switch path.
What can go wrong
- Approval and onboarding can take months, so the first dollar may be far away
- Many free alternatives exist, so pricing power is low
- Notion can change fees and rules for its marketplace at its discretion
- Template must work without hidden content buyers cannot access, or refunds follow
Age, region and other limits
Minimum age 18. Notion has a table of countries where creators can sell directly on the marketplace; check yours. Sales are in USD. Notion's help page states no minimum age; 18 is used because a Stripe payout account is needed.
