Sell a guide or small paid group on Whop: is it worth it? (2026)
Watch, not proven yet checked 2026-10-08
Turn something you know (a template pack, a short guide, a small members group) into a product and sell it through a ready-made storefront such as Whop or Skool.
At a glance
| Time each day | 40 minutes a day |
|---|---|
| Set-up, once | about 8 hours |
| Cost to start | USD 0, then about USD 9 a month |
| First dollar, if it works | 8 to 26 weeks |
| Who does the work | About 60% of the work can be done by an AI helper; the rest is you |
| Fits people looking for | extra income on the side, a creative outlet, a long game |
What you are selling
Digital products or paid access to a community. Money is the price paid by members minus the platform and card fees.
What the evidence says about money
These platforms publish success stories, not income distributions. Sacra counts 183,628 Whop sellers with 258 who had earned over USD 1 million by June 2025, and quotes USD 8,413 a month as the average creator, which is a mean pulled up by the top sellers. One unverified review says about 1% of products earn over half of revenue and only about 2% clear USD 1,000 a month.
How sure are we: Backed by a secondary source such as press or a review site.
What only you can do, once
- Create the storefront account and complete identity and payout setup
- Decide what you honestly know well enough to teach or share, and check every fact
- Invite your first members (friends, colleagues, an existing group) yourself
A first week
| Day | What happens | Who | Minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Write down 3 things you know well and who in your own circle would pay for each | You | 20 |
| 2 | Ask 5 real people from that circle what they would pay for; AI drafts the short message | AI helper | 20 |
| 3 | AI drafts a 10 page guide or template pack for the winning idea; you correct every error | AI helper | 40 |
| 4 | Create the Whop or Skool account and set the payout details | You | 30 |
| 5 | AI writes the product page and a refund policy; you edit and publish | AI helper | 20 |
| 6 | Send the link to the 5 people you asked, with no pressure | You | 15 |
| 7 | Record views, replies and sales and decide whether to keep going | You | 10 |
The rules where it happens
- Whop: You do it by hand inside the platform. Whop fee page: card processing 2.7% + USD 0.30 domestic, +1.5% international cards, +1% currency conversion; next-day ACH payout USD 2.50, instant bank 4% + USD 2.50, crypto 5% + USD 1.00, wire USD 23, dispute USD 15. A secondary review reports a 3% platform fee on direct sales, a 90-day rolling reserve and held payouts; I could not verify those on a Whop page. Source
- Skool: You do it by hand inside the platform. Skool pricing page: Hobby plan USD 9 a month with a 10% transaction fee, Pro USD 99 a month with 2.9% transaction fee. Automation rules and payout terms were not read. Source
The hard part: where people quit
The moment: An empty storefront. Why: A few products earn most of the money on these platforms and the rest earn little. What helps: Start with one small paid offer for a group you already belong to.
When to stop
If after 12 weeks you have not had 3 paying members or buyers who are not friends or family, stop. Never pay for a 'launch' course or ads before the first sale, and do not promise income results to buyers.
What can go wrong
- Most sellers earn nothing and the platforms are full of 'make money online' products; you compete with them for attention
- Selling a course or group that promises earnings is exactly what regulators act on (see the AI income course entry in the avoid list)
- Payout holds, reserves, chargebacks and fees can reduce or delay what you keep
- You must collect and report tax and VAT where applicable; the platforms' handling was not verified
- Running a community needs steady daily presence, which the AI cannot do for you
Age, region and other limits
Minimum age 18. Sacra reports Whop payouts across 144 countries; per-country availability, minimum age and KYC were not confirmed on Whop or Skool pages. Prices on these platforms are in USD.

- Whop's fee page: domestic card processing 2.7% + USD 0.30, +1.5% international cards, +1% currency conversion, USD 15 per dispute; payout fees from USD 2.50 (next-day ACH) up to 5% + USD 1.00 (crypto) or USD 23 (wire). No reserve, age or KYC terms on the page. [P]
- Sacra research page: 183,628 Whop sellers, 258 earned over USD 1 million by June 2025, creators average USD 8,413 a month, about USD 3 billion annual payouts in 144 countries, estimated revenue USD 142 million annualised in Oct 2025; share of sellers who earn anything is not given. [S]
- Built by Foundry review (4 May 2026, updated 25 Jul 2026): says about 1% of products earn over half of platform revenue and about 2% clear USD 1,000 a month, a 90-day rolling reserve and 3% platform fee; the author cites Whop docs and Sacra and I could not verify these figures at source. [S]
- Skool pricing page: Hobby USD 9 a month with a 10% transaction fee; Pro USD 99 a month with 2.9% transaction fee; 14-day free trial. [P]
- RevenueGeeks (updated 5 Sep 2026): study of 1,000 English-language trending Skool communities: 95.9% showed a paid price, median listed monthly price USD 39 (868 listings), median 200 members; explicitly not a census and not an earnings estimate. [S]
- ASSUMPTION: monthly cost of about USD 9 is the Skool Hobby plan; Whop has no monthly fee. 8 to 26 weeks to a first sale, 8 setup hours and 40 minutes a day are my estimates. [A]
