Faceless video channel with your own scripts: is it worth it? (2026)
Worth a try checked 2026-10-08
Make videos about a topic you know, with a voiceover and pictures instead of your face, and publish them on YouTube so that after a long time it can earn from ads.
At a glance
| Time each day | 40 minutes a day |
|---|---|
| Set-up, once | about 5 hours |
| Cost to start | USD 0, then about USD 11 a month |
| First dollar, if it works | 26 to 78 weeks |
| Who does the work | About 70% of the work can be done by an AI helper; the rest is you |
| Fits people looking for | a long game, a creative outlet, learning a skill that pays |
What you are selling
Attention. Once the channel qualifies, YouTube pays a share of ad and Premium revenue. Smaller extras are fan funding, affiliate links and sponsorships.
What the evidence says about money
Most channels never get paid. A July 2026 vidIQ snapshot of 61 million channels with at least one subscriber found the median channel has 508 subscribers and 40.6% have 1,000 or more; reaching 1,000 subscribers is only one of the YouTube Partner Program requirements. Shorts pay very little per view (a 274-channel dataset shows about $0.07 to $0.20 per 1,000 views in most niches). No reliable income data exists for beginners, so we show no typical figure.
How sure are we: Backed by a secondary source such as press or a review site.
What only you can do, once
- Create the Google account and YouTube channel, switch on 2-step verification (required for the Partner Program)
- Choose the topic and the angle that is yours; review every script for accuracy before it goes out
- Apply to the YouTube Partner Program yourself when the thresholds are met and accept the terms in YouTube Studio
- Set up the payment (AdSense) account and tax details
A first week
| Day | What happens | Who | Minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pick one topic you know and write one line on who the videos are for | You | 15 |
| 1 | Create the YouTube channel and turn on 2-step verification | You | 20 |
| 2 | App drafts 10 video ideas from real search and question data in your topic | AI helper | 5 |
| 3 | Choose 1 idea and add your own angle or example; app drafts script | You | 20 |
| 4 | App builds the voiceover, visuals and captions for video 1; you check facts | AI helper | 25 |
| 5 | Approve and publish video 1 (title, thumbnail, AI-disclosure setting if needed) | You | 15 |
| 7 | Review the first numbers (views, how long people watch) and pick the next idea | AI helper | 10 |
The rules where it happens
- YouTube: Can go out through the platform's official connection after you approve it. Partner Program today: 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 public watch hours in 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days, no active strikes, 2-step verification. Source
- TikTok: You press publish yourself. TikTok's Content Posting API only posts publicly for audited clients and lists a tool for uploading to accounts you manage as not acceptable; realistic AI media must be clearly disclosed. Creator Rewards (reported by secondary sources, official page not readable): 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in 30 days, original videos over one minute, supported countries only. Source
The hard part: where people quit
The moment: Videos that get dozens of views. Why: A new channel has no audience and the first videos are tested on a small group. What helps: Choose a question people search for. Your AI helper shows views per video honestly so you can test the opening.
When to stop
If after 6 months and 40 videos the channel has fewer than 100 subscribers and no video above 1,000 views, stop or change the topic. Do not put in more than 40 minutes a day.
What can go wrong
- The most likely outcome is no income
- Mass-produced or templated AI videos can be refused or lose monetization at channel level
- YouTube is raising the Partner Program entry bar for new applicants from 1 February 2027 and ties Shorts payouts to a 10 million view floor
- Using other people's footage without real added value counts as reused content
- Wrong facts from AI scripts damage trust
- Not every country is eligible for the Partner Program
Age, region and other limits
Minimum age 18. Partner Program is only available in listed countries (list not on the page read). Payments need an AdSense account, which requires 18+ (a parent or guardian can sign up). YouTube must be applied for per channel; review takes about a month.
Sources
- YouTube Help: Partner Program needs 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million public Shorts views in 90 days; no active strikes; 2-step verification; review about a month. [P]
- YouTube monetization policies: inauthentic (repetitive or mass-produced) content, reused content without substantial added value and generic AI-template content are ineligible; AI personas as health, legal, financial or political experts cannot monetize; AI tools are fine when the final video reflects your own creative vision. [P]
- YouTube official blog (10 Aug 2026): from 1 February 2027 new applicants need 8,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days; only channels with 10 million Shorts views in 90 days share Shorts ad and subscription revenue; existing partners are not affected by the entry bar; fan funding and shopping thresholds unchanged. [P]
- YouTube spam policy: automated tools or AI used to churn out high volumes of similar content with minimal changes is not allowed; testing a few variations is fine. [P]
- YouTube Data API: uploads from unverified API projects created after 28 July 2020 are restricted to private viewing until the project is audited. [P]
- vidIQ Research (snapshot 20 July 2026, 61 million channels with at least one subscriber): median 508 subscribers, 40.6% at 1,000 or more, 7.9% at 10,000 or more. [S]
- AIR Media-Tech (updated 16 Sep 2026; 274 channels): Shorts RPM about $0.07 to $0.20 per 1,000 views in most niches, 3 to 14 percent of long-form RPM; US channels higher at about $0.33. The sample is partner channels, so it likely flatters beginners (my inference). [S]
- Time per day, setup hours, first-dollar weeks and AI share are my own estimates; first-dollar range assumes the long-form route and reflects that 4,000 (soon 8,000) watch hours are needed. [A]
